About the author (1987)

Conrad Kottak (Ph.D., Columbia University) joined the faculty of the University of Michigan in 1968, where he is currently Professor of Anthropology and a Faculty Associate of the Institute for Social Research. Professor Kottakas interests include ecology and state formation, national and international culture, the mass media, social change, and economic development. He has done fieldwork in Africa, Brazil and the United States. Kottak is author of several leading anthropology textbooks as well as his professional work.
