About the author (1867)

Robert Silby Bradley, born 16 September 1841 in Stanwick, Northamptonshire, England, was a schoolmaster in England before coming to Australia on board the Essex in 1867. He opened a grammar school in Stawell, Vic., in 1869 and moved to St. Kilda, Vic., in 1879, where he founded Queen's College, remaining there until his retirement in 1906. He died in 1923. Bradley was for some years a member of the council of the Royal Society of Victoria. He made two unsuccessful attempts to enter politics, once in Stawell and once in St. Kilda.
