This book is a collection of memoirs of Mallacoota residents recovering from the devastating 2019-20 Black Summer Bushfires. Many Mallacoota residents lost homes, businesses and livelihoods during the devastating Black Summer Bushfires. There was a huge loss of wildlife and large tracts of bush burnt to the ground: a significant impact on the environment. At the hour of need there was incredible help and support given to this town by so many. I acknowledge the dedication of the emergency workers and volunteers who worked day and night to provide safety to people. The recovery process started right during the fires, continue today, and will do so for a long while yet. We must thank those who provided comfort, donations and support during the recovery process. Mallacoota has been rising from the ashes. The bush has been turning from black to green. The wildlife making a return. All the contributors in this book, have done so voluntarily. Please remember most of them are not professional writers or photographers. The stories are presented with only minor editing. This book is a testimony to the resilience and resourcefulness of Mallacoota residents.
