Part 1 deals with general principles, square and cubic foot costs, percentages of the various kinds of work, comparisons, and approximate estimating. Part 2 shows how detailed costs may be found. The tables were made especially for this book. Many of the data taken from actual construction. Author is well-known for his New building estimators' handbook.

A surprising amount of practical information in 4 small volumes. 3770 illustrations. v. 1 deals with woods, nails, screws, bolts and the various tools; v. 2 with mathematics, surveying, strength of timbers, drawing, plan-reading, specifications and estimates, and building suggestions; v. 3 with practical building, including a chapter on hoisting apparatus; v. 4 with interior work, mill-work, painting, and first aid.
