In the Name of the Magna Charta, The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution of the United States, The Constitution of the State of California, and all other Documents Ancient and Modern which we as a liberty loving people venerate and obey, Greeting:

To the California Bar Association and their Ladies:

We command you all and singular, business and excuses set aside, that you appear and attend a Banquet given in

your honor at Hotel del Coronado, on Friday evening, November 21st, at seven o'clock, and then and there you shall eat to your satiety; you shall drink consistent with sobriety; you shall consume all the joy your capacity may hold, and finally, that you shall in peace and quiet listen to the oratory which will be suitably provided for the occasion.

For failure to so appear and attend you will be deemed guilty of serious neglect of yourself and your fellowmen, and liable to suffer the loss of a profitable and enjoyable evening.

Witness:

Attest, [Seal]

The BAR ASSOCIATION OF SAN DIEGO.

EUGENE DANEY, President.
EUGENE FERRY SMITH, Secretary.

FESTAL BOARD.

Bar Association of San Diego, in honor of the California Bar Association and their Ladies, Welcome:

Know ye that we have called you together on this occasion for social intercourse and enjoyment; that we may for a time throw off the cares of life; that here we may put a jewel in the crown of life to recall with memories pleasant, that we may tell tales of joy and not of sorrow, that we may enter into an era of good feeling; that we may forget old faults and displeasures and say farewell to sour annoy; that we may make acquaintance into friendship. Be merry and full of pleasure.

Ladies, no scare:

"Drink to me only with thine eyes,

And I will pledge with mine,

Or leave but a kiss within the cup

And I'll not look for wine."

Men, beware:

(Ben Jonson.)

"Gi'e him strong drink until he wink,

That's sinking in despair,

And liquors guid to fire his bluid,

That's prest wi' grief and care,

There let him browse an' deep carouse,

Wi' bumpers flowing o'er,

Till he forgets his love's or debts

An' minds his griefs no more."

(Proverbs XXI:6-7.

Bobby Burns.)
