I highly recommend it; it's insightful and well detailed.
If you are studying their bibles/literature....do yourself a favor! read outside of what they present in front of you, and question every
word they say. You will soon realize how this whole movement works! simply misleading weak minds, and the uneducated that is why they discourage higher education and/or reading/searching material beyond what the Watchtower produces in its 6th floor. Caution!

cont Calculating The Decline of the Gentile Times
Look at what has been being done.
Site of the Fatal Calculating Error!!!
The
declining Gentile Times
2520,………………………………,*-1914,……………………………………,*-1
All these years are 360 days long and *-1914 lunar years are
equal to *-689,040 days.
The ascending C.E. calendar
1C.E.,………………………………… 1914………………………......2010C.E.
Except for leap-years, all these years are 365 days long and 1914 Gregorian calendar years are equal to 698,610 days.
Obviously, 689,040 does not equal 698,610. You must express the difference (*-9570 days) in terms of Gregorian years (*-26.21) years C.E. and add them to the (*-1914) lunar years to get the correct corresponding date C.E. This is what the equation on the introduction and end(See^)pages does. We will continue however to work through manually to the answer. Clearly it is impossible for 1914 C.E. to be the correct date.
But stop and think for just a moment. Each year to prepare for the Memorial isn’t it true that the lunar date Nisan 14 must be converted to a corresponding month and day C.E. so that those who use the Gregorian (C.E.) calendar will know the accurate date? Would it not also be necessary to convert the remaining lunar years of the Gentile Times to a C.E. date? I hope you appreciate what I mentioned earlier about this glaring oversight and then leap of assumption by so many is amazing! It is as if everyone assumed the math was easier than it really is after the adoption of the Western calendar and forgot about the lunar aspect of the years altogether.
One must determine the difference between the * -1914 lunar years and the 1914 Gregorian calendar years through mathematical conversion. The common unit is the day and by subtracting (using this difference in day amounts of the two), we find a difference of * -9570 days. Simply dividing by 365 gives the results in terms of C.E. years. The answer is * -26.21 years C.E. We can add this * -26.21 years to the * -1914 years we have left on the Gentile Times countdown clock that we are converting to C.E. fixed year. Remembering:
Necessary Algebraic addition rules
+ - + -
+ - - +
cancel cancel always always
just add just add negative negative
The solution is:
-1914.00
- 26.21
1940.21 1940C.E. was the last year of the Gentile Times to a mathematical certainty.

continued review re calculation of end of gentile times period
Calculating The Decline of the Gentile Times in the Ascent of the Common Era
What year according to the C.E. calendar corresponds to
the last year of the Gentile Times when calculated from the start of use of the C.E. calendar?
What do we have to work with in order to solve for the answer?
That from Scripture we know that this period began in 607 B.C.E. when then Jews were taken off into Babylonian exile.
That the length of the period is given as seven “times”; a “time” being defined as 1 lunar year which is equal to 360 days. The Scripture states to use a “day for a year”. Seven times three hundred and sixty. This amounts to a period of 2,520 years.
That the Gentile Time period was set to expire 2,520 lunar years after 607B.C.E.
That we want to know what date ^C.E. corresponds to the last^ lunar year of the Gentile Times.
We have all we need for calculation. But to solve for the answer we must look at the relationship between the individual variables involved and, if necessary, keep track of them. There is a very important reason to do so as seen throughout. No need to study this hard; just keep it in the back of your mind for now. To be thorough, it is required.
Before a rocket launch, no doubt you have heard a countdown. The model of it and what was happening as the Gentile Times expires is the same. Remember hearing T-2519 and counting; T-2518 and counting; and so on? The negative sign keeps tract of the fact that the count is decrementing or moving in a negative direction. Solving for a math result that includes decrementing and incrementing (the direction one is counting in) as this one does, requires vector type analysis and the signs of direction must be carried completely through. Gentile Times count down and C.E. count up.
Of major importance is to note that the number values of the Gentile Times progressively reduce. It is counting down from its maximum to its minimum value.
Note:
Plotting the descent to expiration of the Gentile Times
Total time period = (seven)(times) and that is equal to the total number of days in seven lunar years which is equal to 2,520 years.
Countdown Countdown
Begins ends
2520, T-2519, T-2518,…T-1915, T-1914……………….T-1
Looking at the C.E. (Gregorian) calendar as a variable does not present anything remarkable. Like any calendar, it is incrementally progressive always trending to the positive.
Plot of the ascent of the Gregorian (C.E.) Calendar
Count up
Begins
+1C.E., 2C.E., 3C.E.,…….+1914C.E………………………+2010C.E….
In the future, as the answer is worked out, any number value used from the expiring Gentile Times will be marked with an * next to a – sign. While none of this affects the numerical value of the end result, it is important in proving that the answer is in the correct phase angle; that is that it is headed in the right direction for the expected result (use of vector analysis). So from above, all number derived from the C.E. calendar will be positive and all numbers derived from the countdown calendar will be negative.
Now let’s look at each graphed.

The calculations used to arrive at 1914 were flawed due to an obvious simple math error. This letter was send out by an up till now unknown brother who for also obvious reasons did not identify themself. It was written to a witnesses who had past away before it was sent. Please review and check the math yourself! Whether you believe the end of the gentile times mark the begining of the 'last days' or not, it is clear that some math conversion would be necessary to convert from the lunar years to Gregoerian (CE) years to get a correct answer. Please read.
Hello dear friend,
When I was a little boy, I had the pleasure and honor of working with you. You taught me a lot about ministry both spiritual and physical. I worked with you in the evangelizing work, around the halls, and at the assemblies. I worked with you and I worked for you. You know my best and my worst. You know from what I come. Much I learned in order to strive to be orderly and to develop a strong work ethic, I learned by observation of you. Like brother Andy, sister Ballard, brother Harris, sister Eva, and Skip; a truly qualified group of teachers. Christ made all of you guidepost for me along the way. So, thank you.
My father, whom I dearly miss, called you a “straight arrow” and a “lawman”. I remember you told me that I “must be able to cut anyone and anything loose” if necessary. I vividly remember you and your wisdom exemplified by your actions. “Let God be found true though every man be proven false.” I trust you and you are the only man our Lord is directing me speak to at this time. I know you will follow the truth because you are willing to let your mind be made over to conform to the truth if the evidence warrants doing so.
What you are about to read will be difficult to accept and yet is absolutely true as its veracity can readily be tested out. But beyond this, I know that it has been by Jehovah this has come to light now. It involves the miscalculation of the C.E. (Gregorian) date corresponding to the last year of the Gentile Times. They do indeed end in 1914. This instrument will answer 1914 “what” and how that reveals current misconceptions. After the shock subsides, it will be sweet and cause you comfort. Please be a Borean! Test it out. Show it to anyone you choose (esp. professional mathematicians who have the capability to check the calculations). This is what Jehovah wants. So feel free to copy or publish in whole or in part as you see fit. I only ask that you do me a personal favor and insure that any of the brides you know and at least one active member of the elder body gets a full copy. It will explain to them why you have been involved and from where it comes. The Lord will bring me forth at his good pleasure. When observing odd behaviors, remember how poor Isaiah must have appeared walking around naked for 3 years! If he had not acted out, he would not have received the message.
You are an engineer. Perhaps that is why I too pursued trade in the engineering sciences. For a certainty, unless Lord Jesus had directed my path to be exposed to knowledge in pure mathematics as calculus, I would not have been able to comprehend the full scope of the problem. The most obvious error can be proven with very little mathematical knowledge at all. At the point of realization, take time to consider how such an all-inclusive rush to judgment could take place without steering while considering Daniel 7:25. In any event, this is a case in which the Clever Deceptor effectively altered man’s perception of where he actually is in the stream of time.
As you proceed, this instrument answers this question:
What year according to the C.E. calendar corresponds to the last year of the Gentile Times when calculated from the start of use of the C.E. calendar?
Please do take your time and read.

I used to be a baptised JW in past times including Pioneering (full time door knocking). The WBTS forbids outside reading and non-JW association. It has been a relief to be able to read broadly and 'question' the WBTS interpretation of the Bible. It seems silly now that I believed that Adam and Eve were 'perfect' and yet sinned - and passed that sin on to me. Even the Devil (who must have been a son of God) and many other angels (also sons of God) who had relations with women got it wrong. Jehovah is not very successful eh!
Penton's book shows remarkable insight. In my day we also couldn't have babies, careers, invest in the future. If we had done as recommended we wouldn't have had our 4 beautiful kids. And we would have even sacrificed a child to death over blood tranfusions if called upon to do so. I also would'nt have the University degree I delayed when I first joined.
So the book has a personal journey and message for me.
Well written and detailed - and the bits I know from experience are accurate.
Recommended for insiders (who dare not read it!) and outsiders who may want information to question JW relatives. I wish it were a bit more upto date.

TITLE: "Knowledge that leads to a Crisis of Consciousness for any honest Jehovah's Witness" December 26, 2006
/
INTRODUCTION:
Almost ten years ago, while "studying the Bible" (via a booklet
called "Knowledge that leads to ... Everlasting Life") with the Jehovah's Witnesses (JWs for short) I read this book twice (interestingly enough I found this at a community college and also at a major public university in California). For anyone interested in the Jehovah's Witnesses or anyone involved with the "Watch Tower & Bible Tract Society" (WTBTS, 'the org') I would recommend this book as a un-biased historical account of the theology and history of this 'theocratic' movement.
/
Professor M. James Penton writes with the charm of a historian (no frills, and few opinions). I believe 'the Truth' of the Jehovah's Witnesses will have the power to make anyone considering or involved in this organization have a "Crisis of Conscience" (another excellent book on the topic of JWs that I highly recommend; written by Raymond Franz - former member of the Governing Board or the highest echelon in the WTBTS).
/
Jehovah's Witnesses have a specialized lingo they call theocratic (e.g. 'the Truth' - JW's narrow and biased interpretation of the Bible; 'the Way' - JW's limited and controlled way of life; 'Jehovah' - JW's claim to be God's personal name, when in actuality history teaches us it is a corrupted English word; 'apostate' as anyone who leaves the JW organization, regardless of how they feel about the organization, JWs are not allowed to read any literature contrary to WTBTS or written by former JWs).
/
AUTHOR:
Professor M. James Penton, a Canadian professional historian and professor emeritus, has been a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses for over 10 years before exiting this organization in the 80s, after it was discovered that the dating of the '1914 prophecy' was based on erroneous historical dating.
/
Compared to most of the books on JWs, this is one of the few (along with Franz Raymond's books) books that is not polemical and belligerent in its tone, or content. Penton is not verbose, yet he covers the entire history of this 19th century organisation up until 1985. Recently (1995) he wrote a public letter to the then president of JWs about how the Society is covering up their past compromise with Nazi Germany.
/
CONTENT:
The book is divided into two sections covering the theological understanding that Jehovah's Witnesses have (very interesting and non-consistent with the faith of the apostles) and their peculiar history since their founding by Charles Taze Russell. The JW's also have a history book published by the WTBTS, but it is riddled with inacuracies, half-lies, and truth twists.
/
CONCLUSION:
If you know a Jehovah's Witness who has doubts about their 'truth' (as espoused by their 'Jehovah's earthly organization') this book and Raymond Franz two books ("Crisis of Conscience" and "In Search of Christian Freedom") have the presentation and accurate portrayal of the true history, honest theology, and undercover machinations by those in power. Penton writes to inform, while Franz writes to encourage one to be a true Christian - a Christ's Witness.
/
From my personal experience as a former fervent door-knocking Jehovah's Witness I can attest to the veracity and power of JOHN 8:32 ...
** Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free! **
