The Great Russian Dinosaurs Exhibition: A RUSSIAN - AUSTRALIAN JOINT VENTURE (1993-1997) at the Time of the Transition from the USSR to the Russian Federation. a Time OThe Russian Dinosaur Exhibition was the largest traveling dinosaur exposition in the world! It was composed of 66 specimens of which 33 were complete skeletons. The exhibit came from the scientific collection of the Paleontological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (PINRAS). These skeletons are 90 to 95% complete and many of them are type specimens which means that they are either one of a kind, the first discovered, or the best known specimen. The collection includes the finest assemblage of mammal-like reptiles in the world. Indeed, scientists from all over the world visited St. Louis to see these specimens where they are available for intense scientific scrutiny. Even in Moscow they are many times unavailable for scientific measurements. The exhibit was the first the Russians had ever mounted on their own. It was also the largest they had ever mounted. |
