THE TEXT This text follows Jeannine Hensley's edition of The Works of Anne Bradstreet , published in 1967 by the Belknap Press of Harvard University Press . For poems first published in 1650 in The Tenth Muse ( “ The Prologue ...
and published by Scholars ' Facsimiles & Reprints , Delmar , New York . The Poems ( 1786 ) and Miscellaneous Works ( 1788 ) of Philip Freneau appeared in 1975 , as did The Writings in Prose and Verse of Hezekiah Salem .
His reputation grew dramatically in 1817 , when the North American Review published an early version of “ Thanatopsis , ” which his father copied from the manuscript he found in his desk and carried to Boston to submit to the editors .
