AN EXTRAORDINARY QUEST -- It is A.D. 792, a time of violent uncertainty: in Ireland, the Cross of Jesus vies with Thor's Hammer, the new ways of the Church clash with ancient beliefs. Bran Snorrison, carver of runes and composer of verse in the Viking town of Clontarf, has fallen in love with the village beauty and sets off on a journey to prove his worth in gold. But the fates have much more in store for him, and the young bard finds himself on an incredible trek across the changing face of the eight-century world where old magics fight for life against the new Christian ways. Bran, accompanied by a mysterious girl who is more than she seems, explores the wonder of myth and the beauty of a world now forgotten. It is only at the end of his trek that Bran comes to understand the meaning of life, and even then it is an insurmountable puzzle to be examined across the centuries. THE DEEPEST SEA is an extraordinary novel of myth, magic, and wonder, woven with the richness of history. This is the 20th Anniversary Edition of this cult classic.

About the author (2015)

Charles Barnitz is an accomplished author who has published stories in The Denver Quarterly and The Madison Review and had a chapter of his novel, Mummers, anthologized in the Signet Clas-sic Book of Contemporary American Short Stories. His 20th Anniversary edition of his cult favorite, The Deepest Sea, has been released by Blood And Thunder Press. Many of his stories follow Hring, an 8th-c. former monk, now serving as an assistant advo-cate in the gemot courts of the Mercian province of Elmet. He is out to see balance restored, even if it takes a little creative interpretation of the law to bring the guilty men to the rope.
