CONJUGATION OF THE REGULAR ACTIVE VERB, TO LOVE.

Q. What is meant by a "regular" verb?

A. The regular verb is that form in which the past tense and participle are constituted by adding d or ed to the present, without changing the characteristic or radical vowel; as, I love, I lov-ed. Q. By what other name are regular verbs sometimes called?

A. Regular verbs are often spoken of as being verbs of the modern form.

Q. What is meant by an active regular verb?

A. A verb of this modern form which expresses the action which any person or thing does; I

move.

Exercise. Conjugate the following regular verbs, through their present, imperfect, and future tenses;-Move, force, hope, march, oppose, delight through all their moods and tenses, call, laugh, walk, enjoy, jump, grant, esteem, improve, depart. With the addition of a noun, adverb, or infinitive: To love music; to listen attentively; to love to read; to confer a favor; to stay to dine; to caress affectionately.

Q. What is meant by a "passive" verb?

A. A verb which expresses an action done to any person or thing; I am loved.

Q. How are passive verbs formed?
