One evening on my arrival I found the Duttons in the Rest House ; he had been
ordered to come and try a case which , for some reason , the Tangalla Police
Magistrate and District Judge — who was Southorn - could not take . The Duttons
He was away , but I found her at home in a two - storied house . ... it went on , the
feeling of agitation and tenseness which I had felt on the verandah of the
Tangalla Rest House returned — also the continued sense of her hostility
towards me .
It was late evening and I was the only person in the Rest House . I had again on
me that delicious feeling of setting out alone on a voyage into the unknown . The
feeling was intensified by Polgahawela . What a soft liquid gentle Sinhalese ...
