Promoting Health Through Risk ReductionMarilyn M. Faber, Adina M. Reinhardt Abstract: Issues and topics on risk assessment and risk reduction for health promotion are described and discussed for health care professionals and college students. Papers by a variety of experts are grouped under 4 central themes: overview; risk education methodology; current programs; and future directions. Risk reduction methodology includes applications to childbearing, infant to preschool-age chldren, school-age children, adolescence, mental health risk reduction, stress reduction in the workplace, environmental risk reduction, and nutrition risk reduction. Five different current programs for risk reduction and health promotion are described. Discussion of future challenges includes debate on the impact of federal policies, the potential role of health systems agencies, economic considerations, and the potential for sharing health care responsibilities.
