NOTICE.

THE sum of One Hundred Guineas, which had been subscribed for the purpose of being offered as a prize for the best Essay upon the following subject:-" The Expediency and Means of elevating the Profession of the Educator in Public Estimation" was, early in last year, placed into the hands of the Committee of the Central Society of Education, in order that it might be dealt with according to the intention of the Subscribers. The Committee having undertaken the task, immediately put forth advertisements inviting public competition, the result of which was, that twenty-four Essays were sent in. These were placed into the hands of Henry Malden, Esq. A.M. Professor of Greek in University College, London, who, after a laborious comparison of the respective merits of the different Essays, adjudicated the prize to that of MR. LALOR, and named the other four Essays which are published in this Volume, as much superior to the remainder.
