The Index has been compiled to enable the reader to find readily a given
person, place or event in THE BOOK OF LIFE. The arrangement is alphabetical
throughout; first by main subjects, second by subheadings or key words under
each subject. Cross references have been made between synonymous terms, and
between related subjects. When two or more persons, places or events are impor
tant in a story, duplicate entries have been made. It is believed this is the
most complete index to Bible subjects ever printed. It will direct the student to
a single topic, or to all information on a particular subject to be found in THE
BOOK OF LIFE.

The figures immediately following the title refer to volume and page.

The pronunciation of artists' names is indicated after the surname in the
main entry. In subject and title entries, the artist's name follows the title of a
painting; (c) indicates that the picture is in color. F following a volume number
means frontispiece.
