The Ferocious Summer: Palmer's Penguins and the Warming of Antarctica

Meredith Hooper is an award-winning writer of books for children and adults. During the last fifteen years she has specialised in writing about the history, geology, and wildlife of Antarctica. She has written a number of books with Australian topics - from an illustrated history of Australia for the Bicentenary, written with Manning Clark, to her Carnegie Medal shortlisted novel, The Journal of Watkin Stench; from three non fiction titles about aviation to Captain Hunger and Doctor Thirst, a history of Australian explorers. The Australian Antarctic Division selected her to travel to Antarctica, with ANARE (the National Antarctic Research Expeditions), in 1994 with two resulting children's books, Journey to Antarctica (Scholastic) and The Pole Seekers (Hodder). In 2000 she was awarded the Antarctic Service Medal by the US Congress. She lives in London.
