testified in due time (s). Willing all men to si Tim. be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth (t). Not willing that any + 1 Tim. should perish, but that all should come to repentance (u). For God sent nor his Son u 2 Pet. into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved (x). And Christ came a light into the world, John that whosoeveth believeth in him, should not abide in darkness (y). Therefore as » Ch. 12 by the offence of one, judgment came upon all men to condemnation ; even so by the righteousness of one, the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life (Z).
« Rom. 5. 18.
Concerning the Light that enlighteneth
THE gospel was preached to every creature under heaven (a). Which' gospel a Col. is the power of God unto salvation to them 1.2 3. them thàt believe (6). And if it be hid, it 6 Rom. is hid to them that are lost, in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ should shine into them (c). And this is the con- c 2 Cor. demnation, that light is come into the 4, 3, 4. world, and men love darkness - rather than
John light, because their deeds are evil (d).
And this was the true light, which light
eneth every man that cometh into the • John world (e). By which all things that are
reproveable, are made manifest; for whatf Eph. foever maketh manifest is light (f). Every
one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved: but he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds
may be made: manifest, that they are & John wrought in God (8). And they that walk
in the light, as Christ is in the light, have fellowship one with another, and the blood
of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth them from b 1 John all fin (b). Therefore ought we to believe in
the light, while we have the light, that i John we may be the children of the light (i). 12. 30. Therefore to-day, if we will hear his voice, | Heb. let us not harden our hearts (k). For Chrift
wept over Jerusalem, saying, If thou hadît known, even thou, at least in this thy day,
the things which belong unto thy peace, I Luke but now they are hid from thine eyes (1) 19:42. And he would often have gathered her chil-'
dren, as a hen gathereth her chickens; but m Mat. they would not (m). For the stiff-necked, 23. 37. and uncircumcised in' heart and ears, do 7. Ads always resist the Holy Ghost (n). And are
of those that rebel' against the light (6). o Job 24.13. Therefore God's fpirit will not always strive
with man (p). For the wrath of God is p Gen, revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness (9). Because q Rom. what is to be known of God is manifest in 1. 18. them; for God hath shewed it unto them (r). 'And a manifestation of the spirit is - Ver. given to every man to profit withal (s). For; 'Cor. the grace of God, that bringeth falvation, 12. 7. hath appeared to all men, teaching us, that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world (), And this word of Tit. 2. his grace is able to build up, and give an inheritance among all those that are fancti. fied (u). For the word of God is quick and u Acto powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing afun. der of the soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (*). * Heb. This is that more sure word of prophecy, whereunto we do well that we take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day-Itar arise in the heart (y). And this is the word y z Pęt. of faith which the apostles preached, which is nigh in the mouth, and in the heart (2). z Roma. For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge
of the glory of God in the face of Jesus * 2 Cor. Christ (a). But we have this treasure in
earthen vefsels, that the excellency of the power may be of God (b), and not of us; for the kingdom of God cometh not by observation, but is within us.
FAITH is the substance of things hoped - Hleb. for, and the evidence of things not seen (c).
Without which it is impossible to please w Yer.6. God (d) Therefore we are justified by faith, Gal. which worketh by love (e). For faith with
out works being dead, is by works made f James perfect ( . By the deeds of the law there
shall po flesh be justified (8). Nor yet by g. Rom. the works of righteousness which we have
done; but according to his mercy we are
saved, by the washing of regeneration, and 6 Tit, renewing of the Holy Ghost (1). For we
are both washed, fanctified and justified in
the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the 1 Cor. fpirit of our God (i).
Concerning, good Works, 1F we live after the flesh, we shall die; but if we, through the spirit, do mortify
the deeds of the body, we shall live (k). S Rom. For they which believe in God, must be careful to maintain good works (1). For 1 Tit. God will render to every man according to his deeds According to his righteous judg. ment to them, who by patient continuance in well-doing, seek for glory, honour, and immortality, eternal life (m): for fuch are m Rom. counted worthy of the kingdom of God (n). rather And cast not away their confidence, which 1. 5. hath great recompence of reward (). . Heb. Blessed then are they that do his command. 10.35. ments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city ( ).
SIN shall not have dominion over fuch as are not under the law, but under grace (9). For there is no condemnation to those 9 Rom. that are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after 6. 14. the flesh, but after the spirit; for the law of the spirit of life, maketh free from the law of fin and death (r). For such are bé-Ch. 8. come dead unto fin, and alive unto righteousness; and being made free from fin, are become fervants of righteousnefs (s). There.. Ch. 6. fore ought we to be perfect, as our heavenly
