FOREWORD

The Board of Elementary Christian Education of the Norwegian Lutheran Church of America has keenly felt the need of an elementary work on psychology presenting that subject from a Biblical point of view, and it is therefore with a great deal of pleasure that it is now able to present such a volume to the pastors, Sunday School superintendents, and teachers in our Sunday Schools and other schools of elementary Christian education. The author is so generally known throughout our Church for his broad scholarship, painstaking care, and faithfulness to Scripture and the Lutheran confessions that he needs no introduction. In some respects the book is not as elementary as the Board had originally intended that it should be, but it is felt that the rich variety of material presented may be readily adapted to suit the needs of individual classes by the teachers in charge. While there are some psychological views held by the author in which the individual members of the committee in charge of the publication of this volume cannot share, the book presents the subject of psychology both in a scientific and Scriptural manner. The board, therefore, commends this work on "Elementary Christian Psychology" to the widest possible use in teacher-training classes as well as for individual study. May this volume prove helpful in promoting proficiency on the part of our teachers in dealing with the children of the various ages and conditions and thus aid in the great and important work of the Christian training of our children.
