Teaches you how to be happy!

Flow explains the conclusions from the many years of thorough research on what makes us feel happy and totally engaged with life. It starts with the assumption that the universe was not designed with the comfort of human beings in mind, actually it is empty, called and chaotic. In order to be happy humans create meaning, set goals and order their consciousness. That way we are in control of our lives, regardless of the material conditions, regardless of the caprices of the universe.
The function of consciousness is to represent information about what is happening outside and inside the organism in such a way that can be evaluated and acted upon by the body.
The more one can influence what goes in and out of his consciousness, more he is in flow, feeling happy, fulfilling great and important goals. The author, Mr. Csikszentmihalyi, argues that the product of consciousness, which is the subjective experience, is not just one of the dimensions of life, it is life itself.
Some chapters are a bit dry and overloaded with statistical information, nevertheless the book is valuable source of inspiration and knowledge about how we can achieve harmony and higher, more complex and more satisfying level of existence.

Very interesting book, a classic in the field. This is not a how to book and it does not try to be.
The author explores the concept of flow - " "the state in which people are so involved in an
activity that nothing else seems to matter; the experience itself is so enjoyable that people do it even at great cost, for the sheer state of doing it."
He then explain how can one experience flow not only at work ( where interestingly enough most people do) but also in solitude, with family and friends.
There so great learnings and questions that one can ask about life for example...before investing great amount of energy into a goal, ask yourself the fundamental questions!
- Is this something I really want to do?
- Is it something I enjoy doing?
- Am I likely to enjoy it in the foreseeable future?
- Is the price that I and others will have to pay worth it?
- Will I be able to live with myself if I accomplish it?
Lots of wisdom and very content reach book.
I enjoyed it!
