AN ACT to amend chapter six hundred and ninety-eight of the laws of eighteen hundred and ninety-two, entitled "An act authorizing boards of supervisors to appoint superintendents of the poor to act as keepers of alms-houses, and fixing their compensation."

APPROVED by the Governor February 16, 1893. Passed, three-fifths being present. The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

Section 1. Section two of chapter six hundred and ninety-eight of the laws of eighteen hundred and ninety-two, is hereby amended so that it shall read as follows:

§ 2. The board of supervisors of each county shall determine the compensation the superintendent of the poor shall receive for acting as such during the term for which he shall be elected, which compensation shall not be thereafter increased or diminished during his term of office, except as provided by the first section of this act. This act shall not apply to the county of Steuben.

§ 2. This act shall take effect immediately.

Chap. 43.

AN ACT to authorize the purchase by the state of certain lands heretofore purchased by the county of Oneida for the purpose of being used as a county asylum for the insane, and to appropriate the money necessary therefor.

APPROVED by the Governor February 16, 1893. Passed, three-fifths being present. The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

Section 1. It shall be duty of the comptroller of the state upon Purcha presentation to him of the certificate of the attorney-general that proper conveyances have been executed by the county of Oneida to the people of the state of New York, of an indefeasible title free from all incumbrances of the real estate situate in the city of Rome, and county of Oneida, and state of New York, heretofore purchased by the county of Oneida for the purpose of a county asylum for the insane, to accept the title thereto in behalf of the state, and to issue his warrant upon the treasury of the state for the sum of one hundred and four thousand six hundred and twenty-one dollars, that being the sum at which the said real estate was appraised by the commission created by chapter four hundred and sixty-one of the laws of eighteen hundred and ninety, which said sum shall be paid by said state treasurer to the treasurer of the county of Oneida.

§ 2. For the purpose of making such payment and purchase, Appropriathe sum of one hundred and four thousand six hundred and twentyone dollars is hereby appropriated out of any money in the treasury, not otherwise appropriated.

AN ACT authorizing the village of Ellenville in the county of Ulster to raise money by the issuing of bonds for the establishment of a gas or electric light plant for said village.

§ 2. Said board of trustees are hereby authorized to issue bonds in the name of the village of Ellenville, to an amount not exceeding the sum of eighteen thousand dollars, to raise the money provided for by the preceding section, said bonds to run for a period not exceeding twenty years, and to be sold at not less than par and to bear interest at a rate not exceeding four per centum per annum, and to be for one thousand dollars each with interest payable When pay- annually. The first bond shall mature on the first day of June, eighteen hundred and ninety-five, and the remainder of said bonds to be made payable at such times that one of said bonds shall mature upon each first day of June after the payment of said first bond. Said board of trustees are hereby authorized to make all necessary arrangements, regulations and contracts for purchasing and putting up and maintaining the necessary apparatus for lighting said village with electric light or gas light and for doing any and all acts necessary or proper to be done in and about purchasing, erecting and putting in operation the electric light system in said village or the gas light system in said village, and in placing poles and wires along said village streets or laying pipes and erecting lamp posts in and through said village streets and said board of trustees are hereby authorized to purchase land and to erect and maintain a suitable building or buildings

All additional sums to be used as a sinking fund for the purpose of paying the bonds and interest when due or of reimbursing the village treasury in the amount paid from the village treasury in the redemption of the bonds and interest paid as provided in section two of this act, and after said bonds shall have been fully paid and redeemed all such additional sums of moneys received for the sales of light shall be applied in payment of the ordinary and current expenses of said village.

§ 6. This act shall take effect immediately.

AN ACT to amend chapter three hundred and twenty-seven of the laws of eighteen hundred and ninety-two, entitled "An act relative to the chief engineer in and for the county of Kings." APPROVED by the Governor February 16, 1893. Passed, three-fifths being present. The People of the State of New York, represented in Senato and Assembly, do enact as follows:

Section 1. Section one of chapter three hundred and twentyseven of the laws of eighteen hundred and ninety-two, entitled "An act relative to the chief engineer in and for the county of Kings," is hereby amended to read as follows:

§ 1. It shall be the duty of the chief engineer of the courthouse of Kings county, after the passage of this act, to exercise a general supervision of the different heating apparatus in the county court house, hall of records, county jail, and the several armories of the national guard located in Kings county and to examine into their condition, the need and character of repairs to be made thereto, from time to time and to prepare all specifications therefor and superintend the execution of any work that may be required to be performed thereunder in addition to the
