I love this book! it is filled with fascinating facts about so many composers -- as a music teacher, it is an indispensable resource for me. It is a book you can dive into quickly or browse for hours, and every page yields some unexpected nuggets about composers both famous and obscure. Every music teacher needs a copy of this book, and every classical music lover would enjoy perusing it.

Slight comment: on page 1034 the author should have noticed that Ravel, in 1891, was unlikely to be studying with Charles *(Auguste) de Bériot who he himself writes had died 21 years previous. His son Charles Wilfrid de Bériot (1833-1914) who was still alive, who actually taught piano rather than violin, -- more likely!
