Ticks sent 10.II.1910 by Prof. Harald Seidelin, Director de los Laboratorios del Hospital O'Horan, Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico Gathered in a corral where pigs are kept, by a patient who claims that an ugly infiltrated ulcer on his hand was caused by their bites. This is a common story. "Roofs are often covered with earth from the corral back of the house. If this dirt contains the insect or its eggs, sooner or later (in the instance of a trustworthy neighbor, 7 years) the room becomes uninhabitable, the tick falling on the occupants while asleep." Fumigation with sulphur and steam are not able to kill the pest. they call it here "turi cata" The ticks were rec'd. alive but were left until 22nd when all but 3 were found dead - the rest pickled. 2 (sex/stage not stated) to Prof. E.
