Transtromer, an occupational psychologist by profession, has regularly published his influential poetry since 1954. His poetic language---admirably reconstructed in the English translations currently available---is the syntax of normal prose and the imagery of everyday life, but often bearing strong symbolism. Basically simple images are wonderfully charged with the power to describe human perceptions of nature and of self.
