Windows operations take place on the desktop. There are physical objects on a
desk such as folders, a dictionary, a calculator, or a phone. The computer
equivalents of those objects appear as icons (pictorial symbols) on the desktop.
Display the Desktop Icons > Log onto Windows XP. Point to a blank area on the
desktop, click the right mouse button to display a context-sensitive menu, then
click the Properties command to open the Display Properties dialog box in Figure
