TO THE READER.

Amongst the many writings left by the late DAVID GORRIE, the following "LIFE OF A PLOUGHBOY" his friends have been advised to publish by itself, as containing much that is interesting to that class of men, as well as to the general reader. It appeared originally in the columns of the Strathmore Journal, and was well received. He has left many other posthumous writings, some of which may hereafter be laid before the public, if this publication meet with encouragement.
