The story of a little girl who is gifted in many ways yet neglected by her parents and tormented by her principal until her schoolteacher Miss Honey realises Matilda’s unique talents.
As with all previous Roald Dahl books I have read, this was such a treat.
One of the reasons why I enjoy Roald Dahl as an author is his ability to appeal to both adults and children in his stories.
Matilda is a worthy and likable protagonist – intelligent, kind and independent. I personally identified with Matilda’s love of reading and her willingness to use books and stories as a means of escape. And while there are serious topics in this story, it also provides funny and entertaining dialogue between the characters that you can certainly appreciate as an adult.
