Matilda is a fantastic story about an exceptionally gifted little girl whom reads adult novels like they're going out of style. She also does complicated arithmetic, like multiplying large sums in her head.
Matilda's parent's are two dumb twits, and her brother Michael pays no attention to her or even acknowledges her tremendous intelligence and abilities.
Matilda goes to a school with a teacher (Miss Honey) whom notices in her great potential and wants to see her rise to top levels but is ultimately hindered by the head mistress and school bully (Miss trunchbull).
I first came about the story of Matilda on DVD many years ago. It came in a gift pack with the first DVD player I purchased. I loved the movie so much that one day I decided to buy and read the book. The book is really different and goes into more detail than the movie. Even though it's only a children's books probably made for readers between 7-13 years old, I still loved it better.
This book got me to read the classic novels, and there's actually a Matilda book challenge out there on the Internet.
