it was ok

I had an idea of reading all the most famous books by Roald Dahl (within my intention of learning more about world-renowned children classics unknown for our society), but I was so hugely disappointed and even disgusted by the first two small books ("Matilda" and "George's Marvellous Medicine") that I do not want even to try anything else... Considering what I know about "Charlie And The Chocolate Factory" and "Fantastic Mr. Fox" from their film versions, I have no wish to continue my acquaintance with this author at all.

No, really, the stories are quirky in an unhealthy way and extremely silly, with VERY DISTURBING relationships between adults (teachers, parents, etc.), who are generally stupid, greedy, agressive, and clearly abusive, and children, who are generally vindictive and intend to restore justice via agressive actions of their own... As I remember, at least "Charlie And The Chocolate Factory" is based on the same sick approaches.

So -- no, no, and definitely no.

I do not recommend to buy these books for your children, unless you have such strange tastes are absolutely sure what you are doing. I personally would not like to see these books in hands of my children, despite all the world will admire Roald Dahl as a great writer for kids, and such appealing illustrations, and hundreds of editions and re-editions, and multiple translations, and blockbuster movies by his books, and everything ((.
