For some reason, I never read this book growing up. I'm not sure why, but I'm glad I've finally been able to rectify that.
I read it to my girls, of course, and we had great fun with it. They were both completely appalled at how terrible Matilda's parents were and Miss Trunchbull. Tatem kept talking about how they need to go to jail for being so mean. :o)
I think this is another book that is perfect for kids of that age. I, of course, enjoyed it, but found some things a little too convenient and the ending seemed rushed. There was a lot of detail and explanation in the beginning, but then it just sped through at the end, which let me down just a tad.

Elizabeth Meadows I didn't read this book until a few years ago when Katie insisted that I read it after they had read it at school. I just thought it was awesome! I made my husband read it and then we all watched the movie. I didn't really think about the ending speeding through because I was anxious for some resolution. I guess it was all a bit convenient, but it was so much fun to read. Sorry you didn't like it more. I haven't read much Dahl, but I need to.

Don't get me wrong, I did like it. And I think that everyone should read it in their lifetime. I just have liked other Roald Dahl books better. And maybe part of the problem is that I've heard for decades how impactful this book was for so many young readers and I expected more.
