AUGUST 2016 RE-READ
It had been a long time since I last read this book. I just saw the musical in Toronto a little over a week ago (highly recommend it!), and so I really wanted to read this afterwards.
One thing I love about Roald Dahl is that his writing is not condescending! This is a charming children's story, but it is told in mature and thoughtful language. It's not overly simplistic, it's clever, and it's beautiful.
This is a lovely story about an extraordinarily bright young girl who adores books. Which I think is the perfect kind of story for book-lovers! She's only five, but you'll get to see her perform miracles that help her stand up to her bully of a headmistress and make her kind teacher's life better.
This book is just so charming. It has heart and humour, with just a touch of underlying darkness. The Trunchbull stands out as the most amusing character, at once hilarious and terrifying, the character you love to hate.
This has made me want to re-read more Roald Dahl novels!
