I've read this before, but not for a while - I think I read it in one sitting last time.

I didn't remember that the magical powers of Matilda only lasted a small portion of the book. Even though it is one of Matilda's most famous characteristics, it only occurs for a small time in the book. In the film, which I love, they really bring the magical part out strongly, even though if is different, the film brings out more than the book. Roald is such a good storyteller, I think that's what I admire about his work. I hope to be just like him.
