This was one of my favorite books from the first time I read it, and throughout the subsequent dozens of readings it has never failed to delight me. I had nothing in common with Matilda other than our love for books, but I identified so much with her and aspired to one day read all the great authors she was reading. I loved her intelligence and humbleness, but I was also inspired by her wit and aptitude for practical jokes, something I never really considered a girlish trait, and which I wished I had the courage to pull off.
I am a big fan of Roald Dahl, and this was neither the first nor the last book of his that I read, but it will always be my favorite.
