Cute story, a mostly predictable story line with a few surprises. I read this to both my 11 year old and 5 year old and they enjoyed it equally. As usual I appreciate Dahl's use of language as it broadens my boys' vocabulary while they are simply swept up in the story. It's great when an author doesn't water it down simply because the book is aimed for a child audience, it makes it more enjoyable for the parents to be involved and sets kids on the right path for language skills. I would recommend "Matilda" to both boys and girls over the age of 5....and their parents.
