Memoirs of Rossini

Stendhal
Marie-Henri Beyle (1783–1842), better known by his pen name Stendhal, is best known for his novel Le Rouge et le Noir. Reissued here is the 1824 English translation of his brilliant though somewhat unreliable Vie de Rossini of the same year. Colourful, vigorous and forthright, this is an opinionated contemporary critique of the composer.
